What is the Service Worker Finder?

A service worker is a script that runs in the background of a website. It powers offline pages, faster repeat visits and push notifications. It is registered with navigator.serviceWorker.register("/sw.js").

This tool reads the page's scripts to find the register call, and also checks common file names like sw.js and firebase-messaging-sw.js. For each worker found, we show the size, what it seems to do (offline, push, Workbox, Firebase) and let you read or download the file.

How to use it

  1. Paste the website address.
  2. Press Find service worker.
  3. See how each worker was found and what it uses.
  4. Read the code in the preview or download the file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a site works offline?
If it has a service worker with a fetch handler or Workbox precache, it can serve pages offline.
Why did you find nothing?
The site may not use a service worker, or it registers one only after you log in or accept notifications.
Can a service worker be harmful?
It can only run on its own site and needs https. You can remove any in your browser settings under site data.
