Orchard Drip Irrigation Runtime Calculator

Find how long to run your drip system each day for your orchard. Uses water need per tree or weather (ETo), dripper flow and pump size to plan zones.

Water need per tree

mm / day

About 3-4 in winter, 6-8 in hot summer in north India.

Young trees 0.4-0.6, grown trees 0.7-0.9.

What is the Orchard Drip Irrigation Runtime Calculator?

Running drip for too long wastes water and power. Running it for too little stresses your trees. The right run time depends on how much water each tree needs and how fast your drippers give it.

Enter the water need per tree, or let us work it out from weather (ETo), crop factor and canopy size. Add drippers per tree, dripper flow, efficiency, number of trees and pump flow. You get minutes per day, water per tree, total water and how many zones (valves) to split your orchard into.

How to use it

  1. Enter the water need per tree, or use the weather method.
  2. Enter drippers per tree and dripper flow.
  3. Enter the number of trees and your pump flow.
  4. See run time, zones and pump hours.

Why people like this tool

Two methods

Litres per tree, or ETo Ă— crop factor Ă— canopy.

Zones for your pump

How many valves to run one after another.

Pump hours

Total pump time per day for the whole orchard.

Efficiency counted

Adds a little extra for water losses.

Frequently asked questions

How much water does a fruit tree need per day?
Young trees may need 5-15 litres. Grown mango, guava or citrus trees may need 40-100 litres per day in hot summer. It depends on weather, soil and tree size.
What is ETo?
ETo is the water that a reference grass loses per day because of heat, sun and wind, shown in mm. Many weather apps and IMD agromet bulletins give it.
Why split the orchard into zones?
Your pump can only give a certain flow. If all drippers run at once, pressure drops. Zones let each part get full pressure.
