Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate break-even price for a crop?
Break-even price = (total cost per acre − by-product income) ÷ yield per acre. For example (₹32,000 − ₹3,000) ÷ 20 quintal = ₹1,450 per quintal.
Should I compare it with MSP?
Yes. If MSP is above your break-even price and you can sell at MSP, you have a safe profit. Check the latest MSP announced by the government.
What cost should I include?
Everything you spend for the crop: seed, fertiliser, pesticides, water, labour, machinery, harvest, transport and land rent (if you pay any).
