Frequently asked questions

How much cattle feed should a cow get?
A common rule is 1.5 kg for body maintenance plus 1 kg for every 2.5 litres of milk for cows (2 litres for buffaloes).
What is a good feed cost per litre?
Many dairy farmers try to keep feed cost below half of the milk price. If it is higher, look at green fodder and home-made feed to cut cost.
Why give mineral mixture?
It improves milk yield, health and fertility. Usually 30-50 grams per animal per day is advised.
